Dorna Sports, S.L., 3FourTexasMGP, LLC and Full Throttle Productions, LP signed a ten year agreement to hold the MotoGP World Championships.
The new Circuit of the America's in Austin, Texas will host the MotoGP in 2013. MotoGP already has two rounds in the United States; the U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca and the Indianapolis Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The circuit will host all three classes of the MotoGP World Championship – MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3.
The MotoGP is the premier championship of motorcycle road racing which is divided into 3 different categories: Moto1, Moto2 and MotoGP. The Moto1 class uses a two-stroke engine while Moto2 and MotoGP use four-stroke engines. The Grand Prix motorcycles are purpose-built racing bikes that are not available for purchase by the public and are illegal on public roads.
The 62-year-old MotoGP series has several U.S. stars, including Ben Spies (Yahama), Colin Edwards (Yamaha), Nicky Hayden (Ducati) and John Hopkins (Suzuki).
