Olympic Games Transportation

We'll do our best to update this page from China with Beijing Summer Games info as more and more information is released about the Official Transportation. In previous Olympics, public transportation is free if you have an Olympic ticket to an event (that day…nice try if you’re thinking you can get around during your entire trip with a beach volleyball ticket stub!).

Beijing has an extensive and efficient public transportation network. Subway and City Rail with high speed trains runn at intervals of 3 to 5 minutes are the fastest public transportation in the city. There are more than 60,000 taxis in the city, all of which drive with a certain sense of urgency as well as craziness.

Buses are the cheapest way to get around and expect them to be plentiful during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The starting fare of public buses is 1 RMB in the city and 2 RMB in the suburb areas. Beijing Subway fares vary on different lines. Single trip on Line Batong is 2 RMB, single trip on Line 1, Line 2 and City Rail Line 13 is 3 RMB, the transfer set ticket between Line 13 and any city line is 5 RMB, and the transfer set ticket between Line Batong and any city line is 4 RMB.

Beijing 2008 will have 5 new metro lines, with two of them serving the Olympic Green. Beijing currently has 2 metro lines; this will be tripled for the 2008 Games. Of 5 new routes, two of them (Olympic line / LINE 10 and North/South LINE 5) will serve the Beijing Olympic Green. Click below on the thumbnails to see to view a larger image.
