Go on a Tour that Doesn't Feel Like a Tour
Want to see what Team Ludus is up to in Beijing? Check out Beijing Games Blog.

Since the Olympic Games were awarded to Beijing in 2001, the city has been working hard to be ready for the millions of people that will pour into the city for the Olympics next August 2008. Beijing will be hot (close to 100°F/40°C) and full of people! Between 16-17 millions already inhabit the city (imagine twice the people of New York City). This makes getting around somewhat easy but not very fast! For that reason, the term “Central Beijing” doesn’t quite mean as much as it would in other metropolitan cities. The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square are considered to be the center of Beijing…but if you walked around the Forbidden City, it would take you several hours!

Beijing is an interesting mix of Old World China and New World Capitalism. You’ll find more KFC restaurants and Starbucks than you will Hutongs (=narrow streets or alleys with food choices, small casual bar type seating, public restrooms, etc.) in Downtown Beijing. While Communism rules the political system in China, you’ll be surprised how Capitalist the country feels in an economic amd free market sense.

With Ludus Tours, you’ll be sure to experience the city like a local while still being treated like a King! If you want the tour bus experience, look elsewhere. If you want to have the trip of a lifetime full of memories and fun, come join us this August. Beijing 2008 will prove to be something you’ll never forget….!

ARRIVING IN CHINA

When you enter China expect similar steps as when you travel anywhere else.

VISA: Click here for VISA applications

Form 1
Form 2

You will need a VISA from the Chinese Consulate before you arrive into Beijing.  There will be a significant backlog of applications before the Olympics, so the earlier the better!
Insurance: Some travelers feel better purchasing travelers insurance. Be sure to read the fine print to understand what's covered and what's not. Read more information about insurance here.
Health Check: On arrival, the first stop is the Quarantine Check. You usually pass through without incident.
Frontier Inspection: you'll fill out Entry Registration Cards, and present your passport, visa and quarantine certificates for inspection.
When you leave: You will be asked to fill out an Exit Registration Card and have passports and visas checked. All articles you have declared on the Customs Luggage Declaration Form upon arrival should be brought out of China.
Currency: The Chinese currency is called Renminbi (RMB), and the value is about 7 to $1 USD.  Click here for the daily exchange rate.
Credit Cards: Most large restaurants and hotels will accept credit cards, but it's always a good idea to keep some Chinese cash on ya!
