About Henley Royal Regatta

On the first weekend of July each year, Henley is host to the Henley Royal Regatta. First held in 1839 and held annually ever since, the Royal Regatta is steeped in tradition. The event became “royal” in 1851 when Prince Albert became the first royal patron.

US Women's Rowing

This quintessential English sporting event attracts the best rowers and socialites from around the world for five days of racing (Wed to Sun). Unlike international multi-lane regattas, each heat is a knock-out draw with only two boats racing head-to-head. The course is held on a stretch of the River Thames known as the “Henley Reach” and is 1 mile 550 yards, 112 meters longer than the international standard (2000 meters). Awarded since the regattas inception, The Grand Challenge Cup for Men’s Eights is the most prestigious of events.

This year’s Henley Royal Regatta 2011 is being held from Wednesday, June 29th to Sunday, July 3rd.
